چکیده

In this paper we present a simple method for the calculation of mass stopping power (in MeV cm/g) of protons from 0.5 Mev to 200 MeV energy range in biological human body substances such as water, bone, muscle and tissue. The proposed relations have been described in terms of energy of proton and mean () of atomic number (Z) and atomic weight (A). A fairly good agreement has been found between our simplified values for mass stopping power of protons for water, bone, muscle and tissue and that of Mukherjee calculated values.

Quantum mechanical proton range in human body

Introduction: Proton therapy delivers radiation to tumor tissue in a much more confined way than conventional photon therapy thus allowing the radiation oncologist to use a greater dose while still minimizing side.   Materials and Methods: protons release most of their energy within the tumor region. As a result, the treating physician can potentially give an...

Proton Radiography study using a passive scattered beam

The use of high-energy proton beams enables to delivering high doses to target volumes, while sparing organs at risk compared to X-ray radiotherapy. However, the protons advantages cannot be fully exploited because the range (i.e the stopping powers) of protons in matter is not accurately known. Indeed, the proton stopping powers are obtained by an empirical conversion of X-CT Hounsfield Units ...

The Comparison of the shares of stopping power in a soft tissue-equivalent material

Introduction: Proton therapy is a type of radiation treatment that it uses protons to treat cancer. Because of the protons’ unique ability to distribute the radiation dose more directly to the tumor, it minimizes the damage to nearby healthy tissues. The rate of energy loss by the ion in the target is called stopping power. The total stopping power is sum nuclear and electroni...

Expected proton signal sizes in the PRaVDA Range Telescope for proton Computed Tomography

Proton radiotherapy has demonstrated benefits in the treatment of certain cancers. Accurate measurements of the proton stopping powers in body tissues are required in order to fully optimise the delivery of such treaments. The PRaVDA Consortium is developing a novel, fully solid state device to measure these stopping powers. The PRaVDA Range Telescope (RT), uses a stack of 24 CMOS Active Pixel ...

Proton energy and scattering angle radiographs to improve proton treatment planning : a Monte Carlo study

The novel proton radiography imaging technique has a large potential to be used in direct measurement of the proton energy loss (proton stopping power, PSP) in various tissues in the patient. The uncertainty of PSPs, currently obtained from translation of X-ray Computed Tomography (xCT) images, should be minimized from 3–5% or higher to less than 1%, to make the treatment plan with proton beams...
